DESCRIPTION
Galileo's liquid thermometer-- re-invented at a beautiful work of art!
Like delicate, brightly colored bubbles, hand blown glass balls are suspended in temperature sensitive liquid within the glass cylinder. The design is based on the slow thermometer (Termometro Lento) invented by Galileo Galilei in the 17th century. Each glass bubble is filled with colored hydrocarbonic liquid, and each holds a lead ingot precisely calibrated to differ from the others by just 3/1000th of a gram! The bubbles respond accurately to changes in temperature, and are accurate to within a 1/2 of a degree! The lowest floating ball in the upper part of the cylinder shows the temperature. Reads temperature from 60 degrees to 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Measures 18" high.
